Student Participation Policy

Rationale
The Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) places great importance on the academic participation of students in the decision-making process, as it believes that students should contribute to the enhancement of academic programs and to the improvement of the students’ campus life and learning experience.

The academic participation of students is achieved through their representation related to each Academic Unit, which allows students to raise any concerns over academic issues such as course content, teaching methods, assessment criteria, resources, feedback and also provide testimonials of good practice.

The student representatives report directly to the Head of the concerned Academic Unit/Associate Dean and to the Head of the Student Affairs Office and consequently to the Vice President for Community Life and the Provost.
Call for Candidacy
By the beginning of each academic year, a call for candidacy will be sent by email to all students enrolled in an undergraduate or a graduate program (dates to be defined in the University’s Academic Calendar).
Eligibility
Students considered eligible are those who meet the following criteria:

Undergraduate Students:
  • Have already accomplished 30 credits of their program;
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 75/100 and above;
  • Have never been on probation for academic or disciplinary matters;
  • Have never been engaged in any political activity;
  • Are able to serve for one full academic year before graduation.

Graduate Students:
  • Have already accomplished 9 credits of their program;
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 85/100 and above;
  • Have never been on probation for academic or disciplinary matters;
  • Have never been engaged in any political activity;
  • Are able to serve for one full academic year before graduation.
Selection Process
The selection process for student representatives will be carried out randomly through a draw.

Students wishing to be representatives of their Academic Unit will be invited to fill an online application form or send an email to the Student Affairs Office, within the pre-defined deadlines (mentioned in the Academic Calendar).

All applications will be reviewed by the Associate Vice-President for Community Life for students Affairs who shall determine the candidate’s eligibility.

Applicants will receive a confirmation email on their eligibility status, which will include where appropriate all the necessary details relative to the draw (date, time, location…).
The draw session will be attended by the Associate Vice-President for Community Life for students Affairs, Dean, Head of the Student Affairs Office and students.

During the draw session, each eligible candidate will be adding their own name to the draw box.

The selected students shall serve for one academic year.

The student has to ensure the conformity to the eligibility criteria during the representation term, in order not to lose the representative status.

The number of the representatives is pre-defined yearly for every Academic Unit .

Each regional campus should have one student as representative.
