Faculty of Business and Commercial Sciences
Research Center
1. CIRAME

General overview
The research is an essential component of university education since they are both intertwined. CIRAME is a constituent component of the Faculty of Business and Commercial Sciences in the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK), which was created in 2006 thanks to the efforts and initiatives of the Dean, F. Georges Azzi, the Doctoral School as well as the international partners. This research group was initially oriented towards the promotion of the young research teachers’ profile and work, through their participation in colloquiums, seminars, research and publication activities, such as the CEDRE projects and the AAFBA’s activities (Arab Association of the Faculties of Business Administration).

This responsibility being well mastered, the dean developed the CIRAME’s framework in order to whip in big research centers while respecting new international laws of scientific creation. It is also worth mentioning that the aforementioned Center develops instructions and applications related to the economic and social environment’s actors.

The CIRAME is run today by Dr. Thierry Levy-Tadjine, comprises 26 permanent researchers from the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) and hosts about ten researchers from other universities.

The Mission of CIRAME
Mission – Vision – Values of CIRAME

Mission: The Research Center is a place for exchange and creation of collective knowledge through individual and collective researches. It offers to researchers a framework and means to question and promote their work and to contribute to scientific production. The center aims at producing “actionable” researches in Economy and Business aiming at improving the managerial practices and developing Economy and Business instructions.

Vision: Become the first Francophone pole (and the second Anglophone pole) of research in Business Sciences and Economy in Lebanon with an international recognition for our targeted thematic.

Values: Produce high level researches while respecting individual skills and aspirations; Cultivate the enthusiasm of the center’s members (since there’s no research without passion); Develop scientific rigor; Develop a research methodology for high level activities and serious publications; Share scientific ethics (refuse plagiarism, etc.)

Axes of research

CIRAME in the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik bring together research teachers from the Faculty of Business and Commercial Sciences as well as researchers in business and commercial and social sciences from other higher education institutions, on the national and international levels.

The institutional choice to integrate CIRAME is generated made because of the complementarities of profits and the mutualism of means.

CIRAME’s research programs take on the themes of the Master in Research and other professional masters in management sciences proposed by the Faculty of Business and Commercial Sciences, which are:

  • Audit and Business Control
  • Management of Small and Medium Enterprises and Entrepreneurship
  • Enterprise’s Finance
  • Market’s Finance
  • Strategic analysis in marketing, management and human resources
  • Sustainable development
  • Governance
  • Social Audit
  • Economy

The Constitution of the research team – members
The skills of which the CIRAME is made up are characterized by the plurality of disciplines and geographical horizons. Such a variety represents a choice that goes in hand with the essential opening on the Arab and international environment alike.

Theoretically, the permanent teachers and Ph.D. students of the Faculty of Business and Commercial Sciences in the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik are titular researchers in the Research Centre. Substitute teachers can and are strongly encouraged to participate in the Center’s activities as associate-researchers, while researchers from other Lebanese structures that don’t command a research structure can also cooperate in the Center’s dynamic. The Center’s meetings host thereby researchers from the Lebanese University and from the ISAE.

CIRAME is therefore constituted out of 26 active titular researchers and 11 associate-researchers.

4. Lebanese Magazine of Business and Economy

The Lebanese Magazine of Business and Economy is a specialized electronic magazine that started circulating on the web in 2008. It is available on http://www.religec.org.

This magazine is partially funded by the Francophone University Agency (AUF) and has already signed partnership agreements with Research and Training Units (UFR) of French Universities such as the Administration Institute of Corse’s Enterprises and the University of Bourgogne. It has as well other partners such as the Magazine of Management Sciences, Direction and Business which is a specialized magazine created in 1965.

This electronic magazine of the Faculty of Business and Commercial Sciences in the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik aims at improving knowledge and informing the scientific community about the management and governance techniques in the Middle East in general and in Lebanon in particular. It will have recourse as well to comparative analysis regarding methods of management and settlement of economic and social problems between countries of the Middle East and other developed countries of the OCDE including France. This comparison will therefore integrate disciplines proper to business, economic sciences and intercultural management; integrating the cultural dimension will facilitate the exchange of knowledge between countries and allow confronting various experiences regarding enterprise governance and public governance. These magazine articles will be only written in French by Lebanese and foreign authors and the scientific committee will be formed out of Lebanese teachers and researchers specialized in the discussed themes as well as francophone professors and researchers, which will promote the magazine’s credibility.

The selection of articles by the reading committee of the Lebanese Magazine of Business and Economy is very strict; exactly like other specialized magazines, the scientific objectivity is respected since the authors proposing articles don’t know the evaluators, and the evaluators aren’t informed of the sources of the articles which are presented to them. After having evaluated the article, the reading committee gives a ruling in three ways:

  • Motivated rejection of the article
  • Approval of the article that will be published after the review of the wording committee (namely with respect to the format).
  • Approval of the article based on the content, while the format is to be rethought. In this case, the article is corrected by the author- if he accepts to do so, in a reasonable deadline – and submitted once again as if it was a new one.

It is worth mentioning that the manuscripts proposed to the Lebanese Magazine of Business and Economy shouldn’t be published in any other specialized magazine.
