Scholarships and Financial Aids
1. Spreading out of the tuition fees
Definition
The student has to pay his tuition fees according to the dates of payment defined by the financial administration of the university. However, in some particular cases, the Social Service Office can spread out the payment of the student’s fees over several months by defining a payment schedule. This schedule is to be fixed according to the student’s real possibilities and on the basis of the social file previously submitted to the Social Service Office. The spreading out of the fees cannot exceed the end of the current semester; however, in extreme cases and after having meticulously examined the student’s social file, the Office’s Director can define a schedule that exceeds the current semester or academic year.

Procedure
The student who wants to spread out his tuition fees according to a different schedule from the one defined by the University’s financial administration should get the preliminary approval of the Social Service Office. The student has therefore to visit the Social Service Office in the beginning of every semester so that his tuition fees are registered on his account.
After examining the student’s case and after the approval of the Social Service Office, a detailed record card of the student’s personalized payment is signed by the Director and/or by his financial guardian.
2. Reduction of the tuition fees
Students who can benefit from this reduction
The USEK’s direction has defined seven categories of students eligible for tuition fees’ reductions (no reduction can be applied on the registration fees). 3. Procedure for presenting a social aid demand
A. Withdrawal and completion of the social file
Every student who wants to present a social aid demand in order to benefit from a reduction on his tuition fees must submit a social file to the Social Service Office. This file must be downloaded from the university’s intranet (http://myusek – Students’ Life section), from the website (http://www.usek.edu.lb – Social Service Office) or by clicking on the following link <dossier social> printed integrally, and completed manually by the student and his parent(s) (or his guardian) who should both sign the demand. All the required documents listed at the end of the social file must be presented with the demand.

B. Submission of the social file to the Social Service Office
The reduction demands are submitted beforehand: the social files must be presented to the Social Service Office between April 1st and June 30 of the current year so that the student can benefit from a reduction the following year.

C. Meeting with the social assistant
The student must go to the secretariat of the Social Service Office during the aforementioned period in order to fix a meeting with the related social assistant.
After having submitted the social file, the Social Service Office’s secretary will fix the student a meeting with a social assistant at USEK; the presence of the parent(s) (or guardian) might be required for this meeting. The information given in the file or verbally during the meeting is confidential. Every false data given to the Social Service Office might lead to the cancellation of the reduction on the tuition fees given beforehand to the concerned student.
After that, the social assistant evaluates the modalities to adopt for the examination of the file: examining the academic file of the concerned student, consulting the Dean / Director of the unit he’s attached to, home visits (the student agrees, by signing the social file, to accept home visits from a social assistant of the University), etc.

D. Decision committee
The final decision regarding the reduction of the tuition fees and its percentage is taken by a committee formed out of a multidisciplinary group. It is worth mentioning that no reduction is automatically renewed; the approved reduction is valid for one academic year.
Cumulus
If a student falls in more than one of the aforementioned categories, only the higher reduction will be applied; meaning that students cannot cumulate the reductions and will only benefit from the higher one.
If a student benefits from a reduction given by the Social Service Office and gets after that a excellence scholarship or works at USEK as a Student Job, the Social Service Office defines the amount of the global reduction, taking into account the socio-economic situation of the concerned student.

Application Modalities
The Social Service Office has the right to cancel given reductions in the following cases:
  • False data given by the student to the Social Service Office
  • Disciplinary measure against the student
  • Student on probation
