Professional Standards Framework for Excellence in Teaching and Learning in Lebanese Universities E-TALEB E-TALEB is a national project aiming at developing Lebanese Professional Standards in Teaching and Learning and cooperating for innovation and exchange of good practices and experiences relevant to similar frameworks established in Europe. The main objective of this project is to support the initial and continuing professional development of staff engaged in teaching and foster dynamic approaches to teaching and learning through creativity, innovation and continuous development in diverse academic disciplines and/or professional settings.

RESUME – Réseau Méditerranéen pour l’Employabilité- Entrepreneurship and Employability The RESUME project aims at enhancing and reinforcing the role and potential of HEIs in the development of employability in the Mediterranean countries by adopting a transversal entrepreneurial mind-set at the HEIs and by opening and structuring the dialogue among the universities, the enterprises and the policy makers. The RESUME project will address four priority actions stablished by the EC, the OECD and ETF:
– Establishing inter-ministerial commissions for entrepreneurial learning
– Establishing a platform for the identification and exchange of good practices
– Strengthening co-operation among HEIs and promoting links with business to foster entrepreneurship.
– Establishing an accredited Southern Mediterranean entrepreneurship network paying particular attention to gender issues.

HERMES Development of a Higher Education and Research Area between Europe and the Middle East The main objective of HERMES is to develop training and scientific exchanges between European and the Middle East higher education institutions resulting in a strong sustainable contribution to the construction of a Euro-Mediterranean Higher Education and Research Area.
The HERMES consortium is composed of 20 universities. This partnership also includes 10 associated partners such as public bodies and associations from Europe and the Middle East.
The partnership manages mobility flows between Europe and the Middle East for a range of academic levels – undergraduate, master, doctorate, post-doctorate – and for staff.

Quality in Agronomic Higher Education in the Mediterranean (QESAMED) The main objective of the project is to develop the adaptation capacities of the higher and vocational education systems of Algeria, Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia in the field of agronomy, professionalizing training and perpetuating the continuous improvement process within the institutions for training and applied research. QESAMED contributes to sustainable development and the export capacity of products from the agricultural sectors, as well as the preservation of the environment, for ecological and production purposes. Tuning Middle East and North Africa (T-MEDA) Tuning MEDA project is aimed at the implementation of the Bologna tools in Southern Neighbouring Area universities through building of a framework of comparable, compatible and transparent programmes of studies.

Distance Learning and Pedagogical Innovation The ADIP project intends to respond through pedagogical innovation to the youth employability problem, in initial education and the challenges of education throughout life and the use of experience and skills in later times of study.

Highway and Traffic Engineering: Curricular Reform for Mediterranean Area The project objective is to design, develop and implement a new curriculum programme in Highway and Traffic Engineering in a joint effort between European Union (EU) and Mediterranean Universities in line with Bologna requirements. The former will transfer EU best practices, experiences and methodologies according to the Bologna process to support the development and diffusion of an innovative experience in technical higher education in Mediterranean institutions supporting the capacity and knowledge building in highway and traffic engineering. The realization of a Master programme will follow a scenario assessment, taking into account of Mediterranean institutions and sector needs and requirements, and EU best practices developed.

Cooperation for Europ Mediterranean Master in Neurosciences and Biotechnology (ISIS) The Euro-Mediterranean Master in Neuroscience and Biotechnology- ISIS is a two-year inter-university program aimed at professionals wishing to acquire high-level innovative and interdisciplinary training in Neuroscience. The Master offers a unique master program share by all ISIS project partners across Mediterranean Area simultaneously providing theoretical knowledge of modern life science concepts, technological background, and practical training. Courses and specialized tracks are based on each partner’s expertise in fundamental or biomedical sciences, and are offered within the framework of new methodological approaches including e-learning.
The ISIS Master is funded by the European TEMPUS program. It aims to structure the South Mediterranean participation in the Neuroscience community and strengthen collaboration in this geographical area.

Drop-Out Prevention of Students The main objective of the project is to prevent drop-out, decrease repetition rates and enhance students’ achievement in public schools.
There are six specific objectives:
1. Identify the retention problem in Cycle 1, 2 and 3 for students from 6 to 15 years old.
2. Develop the National Action Plan for Cycles 1,2 and 3 in all public schools
3. Prepare educational resources including material and activities and access to related facilities and equipment
4. Prepare the training modules for training of trainers, teachers and school counselors and train TOT and counselors
5. Integrate and institutionalize Improving Retention and Achievement mechanisms
6. Develop an implementation mechanism to monitor and evaluate the application of the applied Improving Retention and Achievement mechanisms and outcomes
USEK plays a major role in providing technical expertise

Expand Your Horizon – Capacity building program The Expand Your Horizons program in Lebanon builds the technical and professional capacity of 150 Lebanese organizations and their employees so they can play a more effective role in their community. The three-year project is implemented in partnership with AMIDEAST and Knowledge Development Company, with trainings taking place in Lebanon, the United States, and third countries. It is funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development. USEK participates in this program since 2013.

Préservation et développement du patrimoine culturel libanais à l'aide de la gastronomie moléculaire This project aims to:
- Professionalize education in Cultural Tourism and Heritage
- Develop a multilateral cooperation between universities (North/South and South/South)
- Implement teaching units in Bachelor and Master
- Promote local products, sustainable development and agro-tourism in Lebanon.
