Fiftieth Anniversary of the Violinist Sami Chawwa (1885-1965)

To honor the fiftieth anniversary of the violinist Sami Chawwa (1885-1965), pioneer of the Arabic traditional instrumental art, and under the patronage of His Excellency Mr. Raymond Araiji, Lebanese Minister of Culture, the Faculty of Music of the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (Lebanon), in collaboration with the Higher Institute of Music (HIM) of the Antonine University (AU, Lebanon), the Foundation for Arab Music Archiving & Research (AMAR, Lebanon), the Association of Faculties and of Higher Institutes of Music in Arab Universities and the Arab Academy of Music (Arab League) oganized a concert on the Lebanese and Arab musical heritage, given by the Arab Music Choir directed by Ms. Ghada Chbeir.

This event took place on Friday June 19, 2015, at 8:00 pm, in the John Paul II Amphitheater.

The final of the international improvisation competition of Sami Chawwa (taqsīm) was held on Saturday June 20, 2015, at 5:00 pm, in the John Paul II Amphitheater.
