“The Scientific Research in Canada: Towards a Society of Innovation”

On November 3, 2005, Mr. Michel Duval, former Ambassador of Canada in the United States of America presented a conference entitled: “The Scientific Research in Canada: Towards a Society of Innovation”.

The Dean and the Academic Secretary of the Faculty, Mr. Ouaini and Mr. Damien, the Dean of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Mr. Alexis Moukarzel as well as chairpersons of the Faculty Departments, teachers, and students attended the conference. 

Mr. Duval proceeded with a comparison between the evolution of the ancient and the actual state of the scientific research in Canada. He presented the part of the budget consecrated to this sector, and estimated to be 5% of the general budget for the year 2003-2004; the aim being to reach 10% in order to bring closer Canada to the United States that has known a great progress in this field.

Mr. Duval talked about the necessity of a strategic collaboration between the public and private establishments so to determine the technical, scientific, but also financial needs to put into action research projects.

Mr. Duval also discussed the important potential of Lebanon, and similarly the efficient participation of Lebanese researchers or researchers of Lebanese origin in Canada by mentioning the research domain in microelectronics and the advances resulting from the researches of a Lebanese origin researcher, who has finalized an electronic eye for the blinds.
