Agreements and Partnerships

Conventions and Coordination with Faculties of Theology in Lebanon and the Middle East

The Pontifical Faculty of Theology – Faculty of Babel (Iraq)
The Pontifical Faculty of Theology in the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik cosigned in December 2000 a cooperation agreement with the Faculty of Babel for Philosophy and Theology situated in Baghdad (Iraq) and that was transferred during the war in the country, to Ain Kawa (Irbil province, north of Iraq). In view of the security situation prevalent in the north of Iraq, both parties agreed to renew the cooperation agreement between the two Faculties after a forced interruption for the reasons we all know. In fact, we were delighted to welcome in Kaslik from March 9 till March 13 2009, a delegation from the Faculty of Babel, presided by Mgr Jacques ISHAK, Chaldean bishop and dean of the aforementioned Faculty with which we envisaged a precise recovery collaboration program that will officially come into effect in 2009-2010.

The first step of this program consists of sending to Iraq philosophy and theology professors for intensified courses given in Arabic. This revival program was partially prepared by F. Thomas MOUHANNA, former dean of the Pontifical Faculty of Theology, and F. Abdo BADWI, director of the Sacred Arts Department in the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik., who both took the initiative, in December 2008, to provide intensive courses of philosophy ands sacred arts in the Faculty of Babel in Ain Kawa.

The Pontifical Faculty of Theology – The Association of Faculties and Institutes of Theology in the Middle East (ATIME)
On the ecumenical level, the Pontifical Faculty of Theology is a founding member of the Association of Faculties and Institutes of Theology in the Middle East (ATIME) that was created in 1969. This regional organ comprises Faculties and Institutes from the four ecclesial families represented in the Council of Middle-Eastern Churches (CEMO) i.e.: The Orthodox Oriental Churches, the Chalcedonic Churches, the Evangelical Churches and the Catholic Churches.

Agreements with Catholic and Francophone Faculties of Theology: Paris, Lyon and Louvain

The Pontifical Faculty of Theology in the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik is anxious to promote a regular scientific partnership with Catholic Faculties of Theology, especially among the francophone zone, in view of the exchange’s easiness on the cultural and linguistic level. In fact, the Faculty reactivated on April 25th 2007, the cooperation protocol it had cosigned in 1990 with the Faculty of Theology in the Catholic University of Lyon.
A similar agreement is about to be signed with the Catholic Institute of Paris’ Faculty of Theology and Religious Sciences instead of the agreement our Faculty had signed in 1998 with the Higher Institute of Catechetic Pastoral (ISPC) of the aforementioned Institute. The Pontifical Faculty of Theology is finally glad to have signed on March 10th 2008, a cooperation agreement with the Catholic University of Louvain’s Faculty of Theology (LLN) in the framework of a general agreement between the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik and the Catholic University of Louvain.
Thanks to these conventions, four scientific missions from Lyon and Paris were organized between 2006 and 2009 and two similar missions are scheduled for 2009-2010 in collaboration with Louvain and Paris. Two independent commissions were also organized in 2008 and 2009 following personal and punctual agreements. Our teachers and students were extremely glad to host these missions which encourage our Faculty to promote in the future such exchange and cooperation and to develop it to other universities.
