Mission

Ce programme est conçu de manière à permettre à des étudiants venus d’autres horizons que celui de la Licence en Journalisme et Communication de poursuivre une formation professionnalisante dans ces deux domaines. Avec un programme interdisciplinaire combinant des connaissances de grande actualité et des applications pratiques, la formation y afférente améliore les connaissances professionnelles, les compétences et le sens du leadership dans le journalisme et la communication.

Objectifs... Éducatifs du Programme

1. Les étudiants créeront et éditeront des documents écrits et multimédias Contenu adapté pour le Web en sélectionnant les outils technologiques appropriés.
2. Les étudiants appréhenderont l’évolution actuelle et l’internationalisation des médias, afin d’analyser leur rapport aux cultures et aux sociétés.
3. Les étudiants développeront des approches analytiques et scientifiques en matière de médias et de communication afin d’évaluer leur performance.
4. Les étudiants créeront des stratégies de communication appropriées basées sur les données et les outils disponibles.
5. Les étudiants adapteront les contenus appréhendés aux questions de diversité culturelle et d’intérêt économique et se conformeront à la loi et à l’éthique professionnelle des médias numériques.

Aboutissements du Programme

a. Les diplômés pourront structurer, écrire et présenter une recherche personnelle, innovante et documentée sur une problématique dans le journalisme en ligne et la communication en ligne.
b. Les diplômés pourront appréhender les questions culturelles, économiques et politiques, en ce qui concerne les médias et la communication de masse, en particulier à l’ère des nouveaux médias et de la mondialisation.
c. Les diplômés pourront définir les techniques et les outils les plus efficaces dans la communication en ligne.
d. Les diplômés pourront adapter les stratégies de communication aux besoins réels des médias, des entreprises, des collectifs, etc.
e. Les diplômés pourront discuter des principaux facteurs affectant le processus de communication numérique.
f. Les diplômés pourront identifier, employer et discuter des normes éthiques.
g. Les diplômés pourront définir une perspective du fonctionnement des médias et fournir une visibilité au savoir-faire technique.
h. Les diplômés pourront analyser le rôle et les fonctions des médias sociaux dans une société mondialisée et en réseau et apprendre à les mobiliser stratégiquement.

EJCM535Cyberlaw and Cyberethics
2 credits
This course introduces students to texts about cyberlaw. It discusses the different texts with respect to press freedom, as guarantors of individual and group freedoms. It reviews the influences affecting press liberties; elaborating upon the relationship between press independence, politics and finance. The course also examines different means to ensure respect of this freedom, as well as the professional code and ethics of journalism.

This course examines the role and impact of the media in economy, with a main focus on different aspects required to operate a media company.

The objective of these workshops is to acquire proper techniques to prepare, edit, and diffuse multimedia content such as web reports and web documentaries.

This course introduces the ways by which each human society and linguistic group sees its own culture and civilization, and strives to find distinctive features, while accepting - to a certain extent - different cultures to live in its community.

This is an introductory course to different concepts and issues related to the internationalization of the media industry, in relation to international relations, political economy, cultural studies and New World Information and Communication Order.
JCM620Multicultural Communication
2 credits
This course explores consubstantial relationships between communication and culture. As an important and essential element of the communication act, cultures live, perpetuate and renew themselves through communication. The course introduces communication semiotics, and invites students to analyze the mechanisms of intercultural communication.
JCM517New Technologies, New Media
2 credits
This course reviews diverse techniques related to new technologies in the field of communication. From print media to electronic media, going through audiovisual media, “new media” are emerging with technological progress, and development of the consumer society. This course is an introduction to the operational aspects of new communication and information technology.
EJCM680Professional Internship
3 credits
Students are required to pass through a traineeship of 200 hours in a press office, company, or advertising agency. They should become familiar with the different services and posts, before selecting a certain job. On completion, they will submit a report of 15 pages summarizing their performed tasks and experience. Enrolled students should have covered 26 credits with a GPA. ≥ 80 /100.

The course is a cycle of seminars involving qualified professionals and specialists from other fields, who will explain the real needs of the market, alongside the available media means to meet these needs. This course will be examining investigative journalism, e­marketing, conceptualizing and editing online magazines, photojournalism, data journalism, leadership, information on mobiles, etc.

This course trains the students to be community managers, who are entrusted to increase and retain an audience, through different ethical, relational and social strategies, and to uphold the e­reputation of trademarks and media.
JCM610Strategies and Tools of Public Communication
2 credits
This course examines adequate techniques and methods to be used, in order to implement a communication strategy with optimum results. As there are multiple communication tools, this course offers a theoretical approach, followed by practical applications allowing a better mastery of the techniques.
EJCM520Web Fundamentals for Online Communication
3 credits
This is an introductory course to HTML language to enable students to create and manage a website, on their own, or in collaboration with web designers and developers. They will first master the CMS services such as Drupai, Joomla and Wordpress, and will then be initiated to HTML. They will be acquiring appropriate terminology to communicate with the webmaster for a better exploitation of web tools and possibilities.

This course raises student awareness to the particularities of writing, organizing, and editing web contents. It defines the formats of various journalistic genres adapted to the web, offering many practical exercises to adapt articles for screen reading.

Capstone
EJCM690AProfessional Project
4 credits
A professional project is pursued under the supervision of a professor in the Master’s department, or other professional journalist or communication expert. The purpose of this project is to develop and demonstrate professional competence and experience. The final project (web documentary, digital communication campaign, etc.) depends on the specialty of the student and should be validated by a jury. Enrolled students should have covered 26 credits with a GPA. ≥ 80 /100.
