On Tuesday September 23, 2014, the Center for General and Life Ethics became affiliated to the Higher Center for Research at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) in the presence of the University community and representatives of civil society organizations.

The Director of the Center, Rev. Fr. Charbel Chelala, considered that “This center answers to the call of the Catholic Church to activate research in the field of ethics and to provide a platform for dialogue and discussion between the components of society. The stakeholders in this Center are the University community and all those working in the fields of health, medicine and people wishing to dig deep in the field of ethics and bio-ethics in civil society…The works of the Center will focus on scientific research, formation and documentation.” He concluded: “This Center will contribute, as much as possible, to understanding the ethical challenges and dilemmas in our country and our Middle East, and to answering these challenges and dilemmas in cooperation with all good will holders.”

After the introduction of Dr. Mariette Fayad, Dr. Zaki Ghorayeb gave his inaugural conference entitled: “Ethics for All from the Perspective of the Regular Human Being towards the Duty of the Missionary”. He gave a life testimony showing his transformation from a quasi-ignorant to a missionary in the field of ethics. He also focused on the way to define and disseminate ethics while explaining the simple differences differentiating the concepts of ethical principles. Finally, he talked about the educational means which help in disseminating these principles to the highest number of people.
