Orientation and Instruction Guidelines

If you want to find out what the Library can do for your students, we have librarians who can give your class an orientation session, and help students by offering invaluable research practice time.

Two types of sessions available for your students

Student Orientation Sessions
Orientation sessions are available throughout the year. Orientation provides a general overview of the Library and includes an introduction to how the USEK Library is organized, what collections and resources are available, the facilities, and what services are on offer to you.

Instructors wanting a more in-depth library instruction for their course should request a library Instruction Session.
Instruction sessions are tailored for specific courses. Librarians will organize a session in the Library and demonstrate to students how to locate relevant books and articles using USEK Library resources, and show them how to access relevant information, evaluate and use it.

Booking Requirements
  • To book orientation/instruction sessions, you should submit an online application form at least ten (10) working days in advance to allow us enough time to prepare for your session, as sessions are subject to librarian and room availability;
  • Please provide us with three possible dates. The Library will do its best to provide orientation/instruction on your preferred dates, otherwise you will be contacted for other date suggestions;
  • If requesting a library instruction session, please include a brief description of the course and any information regarding the current research tasks. This will help librarians provide relevant, course-related information and resources for your students;
  • You will be sent an e-mail confirming the time and date of your session. Occasionally a librarian might ask for additional information from you regarding the content of the session;
  • You are required to accompany your class and remain with them for the duration of the session;
  • All library sessions must be booked online;
  • Please notify the Library of any changes or cancellations at least 24 hours before the time of the session by sending an e-mail to referencedesk@usek.edu.lb
