The fair of old books, archives and manuscripts, 2008

From May 29 to June 1, 2008

Under the auspices of His Excellency Mr. Michel Edde, the Main Library organized the Old Books, Archives and Manuscripts Fair, the fourth national meeting of old books’ professionals, from May 29 to June 1 in the Main Library’s esplanade.

Schedule

Thursday May 29

  • 5:00 p.m. Inauguration of the fair
    Exhibition Gibran as seen through his archive, in cooperation with the National Gibran Committee
  • 5:30 p.m. Exhibition of paintings on the theme of power by Charles Andre El-Dib, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, USEK
  • 7:00 p.m. Roundtable debate on the Introduction to pedagogy issues, towards new concepts of State and Law and Citizenship, a State Project for a New Society , works published by the Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities – USEK

Friday May 30

  • 4:00 p.m. Opening of the fair
  • 5:00 p.m. Children stories and nursery rhymes (4/5 year olds) with Christelle Bou Rjeili
  • 5:30 p.m. Reading and animation with Marie Noëlle Fahed Japy on her works
  • 7:00 p.m. Roundtable discussion of Dr. Jean Charaf’s book entitled Lebanon during the Sixteenth Century (in Arabic)

Saturday May 31

  • 10:00 a.m. Opening of the fair
  • 3:00 p.m. How to restore damaged books? Workshop moderated by Mrs. Dolly Sassine-Escallier
  • 5:00 p.m. Children stories and  nursery rhymes (6/7 years olds) with Rima Youssef
  • 5:30 p.m. Animation in French and English on the books entitled Le petit livre de l'alphabet phénicien and “Little book of the Phoenician alphabet” by their illustrator Tatiana Botcharova Sabbagh
  • 7:00 p.m. Roundtable discussion on the theme: Gibran’s 125th anniversary, what is left of it and why? (in Arabic), followed by the signing ceremony of Gibran’s dictionary (in Arabic) by Alexandre Najjar 

Sunday June 1

  • 10:00 a.m. Opening of the fair
  • 5:00 p.m. Children stories and nursery rhymes (7/8 year olds) with Yasmina Abdel Sater
  • 5:30 p.m. Joumana Behlock tells a story entitled Le Mur(The Wall) (in Arabic) on the theme of difference (5 years and up)
  • 7:00 p.m. Roundtable discussion on the theme Father Yaacoub, the monk of Beatitudes
  • 9:00 p.m. Closing of the fair
