The Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, maintains a very special mission as part of the Lebanese Maronite Order’s vocation, namely, the education of the youth and the building of a humanist culture.This culture is rooted in the Orient but reaches out, through learning and science, towards constantly changing horizons.
The Main Library, located in the heart of the University, strives to perpetuate this mission. It aspires to its realization by being rooted in the Orient, and by its openness to all aspects of learning and science.
Initially intended for the seminarians and theology students of the Lebanese Maronite Order, and consequently limited to philosophical and theological books, the Central Library has had to meet the requirements of the different faculties and sections of the University, particularly after the establishment of the University in 1962.
Today, it covers all taught disciplines: theology, liturgy, philosophy, human sciences, languages, history, archeology, musicology, law, fine and applied arts, sacred art, business and economic sciences, agronomy, nutrition, engineering, computer engineering, medicine and nursing.
Thus, the Main Library of USEK provides its students with the documentary basis for their study and research. Moreover, the Central Library which is constantly being enriched by new publications required by science is particularly intended for the students and teachers of the University community, as well as for the University staff. It is also open to external students and researchers.
National and international authorities
On the national level, the Central library is a member of the LLA (Lebanese Library Association).
On the international level, the Central library is a member of several world organisations pertaining to library science and paleography (MELCOM-Middle East Library Committe-, Tma, Herimed), the European association of Middle East librarians.
