Congratulations | Class of 2019!

I. Pre-commencement
Step 1 | Register online
  • Students who graduated in Fall 2018-2019 and who are expected to graduate in Spring 2018-2019 and Summer 2018-2019 should register online for the Commencement Ceremony 2019
  • - Thursday, June 27, 2019: Schools of Engineering, Medicine and Medical Sciences, and Music, and Pontifical School of Theology
    - Wednesday, July 3, 2019: Faculties of Agricultural and Food Sciences, Fine and Applied Arts, Letters, Philosophy and Humanities, Religious and Oriental Sciences, and Sciences, as well as School of Law and Political Sciences and USEK Business School

  • Deadline: Wednesday, June 5, 2019 (no request will be accepted after this date).
  • N.B.: To cancel your request, please send the cancellation via the same registration form (before Monday, June 17, 2019). Students who cancel their request before this date are eligible for a 90 USD refund during the cap and gown restitution period.

Step 2 | Deposit a guarantee
  • 100 USD for students wishing to participate in the ceremony (50 USD refundable upon return of cap and gown)
  • 50 USD for students wishing to rent the cap and gown only (40 USD refundable upon return of cap and gown)
  • Location: Accounting Office – Student Service (Registrar Office)
  • Opening hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Deadline: Friday, June 7, 2019 (no request will be accepted after this date).

Step 3 | Collect your graduation cap and gown and have your yearbook photo taken
  • Location: Room ES101 – Building E
  • Date: Wednesday, May 29, Thursday, May 30, Friday, May 31, Monday, June 3, Tuesday, June 4, and Friday, June 7, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Please note that the dates are subject to change due to Eid al Fitr coinciding with the 1st week of June).
  • N.B.: To cancel your request, please send the cancellation via the same registration form (before Monday, June 17, 2019).

Step 4 | Collect your invitation cards (4 cards per student)
  • Location: Student Affairs Office (SAO)
  • Opening hours: Wednesday, June 19 to Friday, June 21, 2019 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (June 27 and July 3 ceremonies)
  • If assistance for guests with physical disabilities is needed, please contact the SAO on +961 9 600 196/7 or send an e-mail to commencement@usek.edu.lb.
II. Commencement Day
  • You will receive your line-up seat number by email one day before the ceremony.
  • Your presence at the John Paul II Amphitheater is mandatory at 3:30 p.m.
  • Men should consider wearing slacks with a buttoned white shirt.
  • Consider wearing comfortable shoes (to make walking across the stage easier).
  • Keep your mobile phone on silent mode at all times.
  • Parking is not provided for graduates.
  • Pause slightly while shaking hands with the President so that the professional photographer can take a photo. Once the photo is taken, you can return to your seat.
  • Smoking is not allowed during the commencement ceremony.
  • All graduates and their guests are invited to a cocktail reception after the ceremony.
  • Participation in the commencement ceremony cannot be considered as valid proof of having obtained a degree/diploma.

Instructions for guests
  • Location of the ceremony:
    - June 27 ceremony: John Paul II Amphitheater
    - July 3 ceremony: USEK Campus - Student Parking
  • You will be required to present your invitation card upon arriving at the commencement ceremony.
  • The commencement ceremony is an adult only event.
  • 1 parking spot only is provided for each student’s invitees (same spot for parents and invitees).
  • The parking voucher should be shown at the entrance.
  • Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
  • Guests will be seated on a first-come, first-served basis.
III. Post-commencement
Cap and gown restitution
  • Monday, August 5 to Thursday, August 8, 2019 (the deposit will not be refunded after August 8).
  • Time: 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Location: Room ES101 – Building E

Refund
  • 90 USD refundable for students who cancelled their participation within the deadline (before Monday, June 17, 2019)
  • 50 USD refundable for students who participated in the ceremony
  • 40 USD refundable for students who rent the cap and gown only

Diploma pickup and Alumni Card
Students will receive an email and SMS once the parchment diploma and Alumni Card are ready to be collected from the Registrar Office. If the student cannot collect the documents in person, they may delegate a representative to do so by completing the Letter of Authorization to Release Information or by sending an email to the Registrar Office at registrar@usek.edu.lb.
IV. Important dates

  • Registration deadline: Wednesday, June 5, 2019
  • Cancellation date: Monday, June 17, 2019 (no refund will be given after this date).
  • Invitation cards: Wednesday, June 19 to Friday, June 21, 2019 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (June 27 and July 3 ceremonies)
  • Refund and cap and gown restitution: Monday, August 5 to Thursday, August 8, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
V. After Prom
  • Date: Wednesday, July 3, 2019
  • Location: La Taiga Resort – Batroun
  • Guests: Majd Mousally and Maher Jah
  • Time: Doors open at 11 p.m.
  • Tickets are sold at the SAO (including entertainment, DJ, gadgets, fireworks, and many more surprises):
    - 60 USD – High tables (open bar)
    - 80 USD – VIP lounges (open bar)
    - 100 USD – VVIP lounges (open bar)

VI. Parking
  • Parking for faculty and staff: Parking of Building H.
  • Parking is not provided for graduates.
  • 1 parking spot only is provided for each student’s invitees (same spot for parents and invitees).
  • The parking voucher should be shown at the entrance;
  • Parking space for guests (July 3 ceremony) with shuttle bus transportation to the commencement ceremony area are available (as per the parking voucher delivered to each graduate).
    - Parking A: Portemilio;
    - Parking B: Facing ATCL;
    - Parking C: USEK student parking.
  • Parking space for guests (June 27 ceremony) is provided on campus.
VII. FAQ
1. How can I edit or cancel my request to participate in the ceremony?
Students can change the option chosen (or cancel the request) through the same registration form initiated

2. How can students from USEK’s Regional University Centers (RUC) participate in the ceremony?
The same online procedure is applicable for students of the USEK Campus and the RUCs of Chekka, Rmeich, and Zahle. Students should respect the dates chosen upon online registration for the photoshoot and cap and gown collection from the USEK Campus.

3. How many invitation cards are issued for each student?
Each student is allowed 4 invitation cards.

4. Are extra cards available?
No additional cards can be provided or sold to graduates.

5. Do graduates have access to the parking?
Due to limited spaces and availability, parking is not provided to the graduating students.

6. How long does the ceremony last?
The ceremony is expected to last between 3 and 4 hours.

7. On what basis is the seating arrangement organized?
Guests will be seated on a first-come, first-served basis starting 5:30 p.m.

8. Are children allowed to attend the ceremony?
The commencement ceremony is an adult only event.

9. Are there any rehearsals prior to the ceremony?
No rehearsal; students are required to attend the Commencement Day briefing starting 3:30 p.m.at the John Paul II Amphitheater.

10. Where can students lock their belongings during the ceremony?
It is recommended that you come as light as possible and keep your personal belongings with you at all times. However, the John Paul II Amphitheater will be locked during the ceremony and will be opened for students only after the ceremony (N.B.: The administration is not to be held responsible for any belongings in the Amphitheater).

11. Is assistance for people with physical disabilities provided?
