Overview
The School of Music, which is attached to the Faculty of Music, aims to promote a general musical culture and specialized musical studies.
This School ensures the teaching of standard theoretical and practical courses, including: Solfeggio, Dictation, Theory, Harmony, Counterpoint, Oriental and Occidental Musical Instruments, and Oriental and Occidental Singing, etc. The studies program is similar to that of a conservatory.
This School delivers the following to regular applicants; 1st degree certificates, following the passing of elementary courses, and 2nd degree certificates, following the passing of intermediate courses.
Upon completion of their studies, and after passing the exams, students receive a Diploma, delivered by the Faculty of Music and recognized by the Lebanese State.
Academic Program
The USEK Faculty of Music provides a wide range of musical teaching, from the elementary level to a higher specialized level; thanks to the School of Music and to the Department of Higher Specialized Music Teaching.
The School of Music delivers the following certificates and diplomas:
- First Degree Certificate, at the end of the Elementary Level, (upon completion of half of the program of Musical Instrument, Singing, Solfeggio/Dictation or Music Composition).
- Second Degree Certificate, at the end of the Medium Level, (upon completion of three-quarters of the program of Musical Instrument, Singing, Solfeggio/Dictation or Music Composition).
- Graduate Diploma, at the end of the Superior Level, (upon completion of the entire program of Musical Instrument, Singing, Solfeggio/ Dictation or Music Composition).
In order to be able to pursue specialized higher studies in music, and to obtain University Diplomas the students should register in the Faculty of Music.
- The Faculty also delivers testimonials, covering studies that have been done.
Functioning, Facilities and Activities
- The School Authorities consider it their pleasure and duty to regularly meet the students and their parents or guardians, by prior appointment and according to the following timetable: Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. till 1:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
- The School is open every day between Monday and Friday, from 8:30 a.m. till 7:30 p.m., and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. till 2:30 p.m.
- It organizes various concerts primarily meant for students, their parents or guardians.
- It organizes intensive sessions for both vocal and instrumental practice and interpretation.
- The School awards prizes and scholarships to particularly brilliant students.
- Thanks to its connection with the Faculty of Music, it has at its disposal a rich musical library as well as a collection of sound and video recordings of music.
- It makes every effort to be constantly up-to-date.
- The premises, with large lecture halls and private cabins, are equipped, air-conditioned and soundproofed, so as to allow agreeable and uninterrupted use.
Admission Conditions
- There are no conditions attached to registration. The School is open to any applicant above the age of 6.
A semestrial fee gives students the right to follow the courses. This should be paid at the Secretariat on the dates fixed.
- Required documents:
- One photocopy of the identity card or, in the case of foreigners, of their passport.
- Two passport photos.
- Registration must be undertaken in person. It may not be undertaken on behalf of another person.
- Courses are spread over three semesters:
- 1st semester: September - January
- 2nd semester: February - June
- 3rd semester: June - September
- The academic semester comprises 13 sessions, including the exam session.
