International Colloquium “Crises, Globalization and Governance: how to draw lessons?”

On April 2, 2012, under the High Patronage of His Excellency Mr. Najib Mikati, President of the Council of Ministers, The Faculty of Business and Commercial Sciences at The Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, in conjunction with The Arab Society of Faculties of Business, Economic and Political Sciences, organized the International Colloquium on “Crises, Globalization and Governance: How to draw lessons?”. The opening ceremony was attended by a number of political, diplomatic, military and social dignitaries.

Actors and decision-makers deplored the actual drift of the globalization process, as illustrated by the world financial crisis. Attention was therefore drawn to the absence of governance or inadequate governance of globalization. From this perspective, the conference aimed to tackle a potential and desirable way of reinventing or implementing specific types of governance, both at the private and public levels, in order to reorient the globalization process towards a safer and much more efficient path. The main problems were raised in the Economic, Business, Administrative, and Political Sciences fields, while respectively tackling the following: the supranational regulation of globalized finance, the new enterprise governance, and the restoration of social democracy facing interest groups.

During the Colloquium, Prof. Frank Bournois was decorated by H.E. General Michel Sleiman, President of the Republic, with the Gold Medal of Honour for Public Instruction, as a token of his contributions to Lebanon.

The colloquium was held for two consecutive days and tackled, in the first day, three main themes: World Governance after the Crisis, Ethics and Corporate Governance, and Sustainable Development and Ecotourism.
