The Department of French Language and Literature at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) organized on May 19, 2011 a scientific day on the theme of: “Write, Rewrite and Read in the Era of Globalization”. The lectures addressed debatable issues, particularly the challenges of writing, rewriting and reading in our current globalized and digitized world, expectations and obligations of postmodern authors and readers, and interrogation on the future of literature, particularly French and francophone literatures.

The first session included the following lectures: « Réécriture de la Théogonie d'Hésiode par Pierre Charras dans Dix-neuf secondes » by Sophie Nicolaïdès-Salloum, « L’écriture-lecture de Pascal Quignard ou Les Ombres errantes en marge de la contemporanéité » by Marianne Njeïm, « Comment ‘écrire le moment’ dans La Consolante d'Anna Gavalda » by Christelle Stephan Hayek, and « Les enjeux de l’écriture francophone au sein du monde globalisé » by Tanios Njeïm. While the second session started with a lecture on the theme of « Reading and Writing the History of Colonialism : a Postcolonial Approach » by Noureddine Teniou from Constantine University, Algeria, followed by « Mort et résurrection du romancier postmoderne dans la Carte et le territoire de Michel Houellebecq » by Nicole Saliba-Chalhoub, « La rhétorique du sphinx, métaphore de l’écriture coctalienne » by Samar El Hage, « Lisez pour vivre, naviguez pour survivre » by Mireille Romanos.

The second session ended with a lecture on « Lecture des séries en littérature de jeunesse : universalité de l'écrit et de l'image » by Jocelyne Lassalle-Gharios from Artois University, France.
