Coexistence and Neutrality of the State: the test of radicalization, the retreat of identity and global volatility

Under the High Patronage of His Excellency the President of the Republic General Michel Aoun, and within the framework of the Month of Francophonie, the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) is organizing a colloquium entitled: “Coexistence and Neutrality of the State: The test of radicalization, the retreat of identity and global volatility?”

This event, hosted by the Research Center on Minorities in the Middle East (RCMME), in collaboration with SoDRUS, will take place on March 14, 15 and 16, 2018 in Jean El Hawa Auditorium. All the round tables will be held in Room HS315 – B3.

This colloquium deals with the question of coexistence as a notion, concept, socio-cultural phenomenon and political organization. In these three dimensions, the coexistence is recognized as one of the main global issues that affects secular states, clerical and religious regimes, as well as the pluralistic societies in the age of globalization, the opening of markets, the decline of the Territorial state, secularization and accelerated urbanization.

Thus, the profile of humanity becomes more diversified and resembles to a planetary village with an increased pluralization of the ethnic and religious belongings of all the corners of the world and places of encounter and crossbreeding of all origins.

As a result, coexistence becomes a space of intertwining of the scales of values and usages and mores whether between what is dominant in urban areas and those in rural areas. Either between the interests of the social classes belonging to various phases of the ongoing industrialization.

That is why, the colloquium has a mandate to focus on political and civic commitments towards the Universal and National Human Rights Declarations and the Montreal Declaration on the coexistence 2015. In particular, those engaged in the areas of citizenship education, integration and inclusion.
