The author published this serialized story in Al-Dabbour, a weekly newspaper, in 1930. It deals with the issue of Lebanese migration from villages to the American continent and the resulting social problems in the homeland and abroad. It also tackles the hardships that travelers went through, particularly the horrors of the sea, and the exploitation of the travel agencies. Furthermore, it depicts rural life and traditions related to specific occasions, with aspects of religious life, education and medication, in addition to legends and rumors found in women’s talks. This story is written in the colloquial Lebanese language and includes many vocabulary words that are no longer used, besides funny sayings and famous quotes with multiple connotations about Lebanese life in the first decades of the twentieth century.
