Initially intended for children, these stories depict a facet of Lebanese popular existence before it was affected by modern civilization and foreign external factors. They used to entertain our children before the advent of television and the internet. While renewal is a sign of progress, it eradicates, however, the “local flavor” of Lebanese villages and distorts their original identity by turning it into a hybrid identity with no particular character. This is all from the past, though we should, at least, try to preserve those memories that reflect an authentic simplicity and kindness of heart and spirit.

To ensure that this beautiful past is always present in our minds, it is crucial to revive its images, through these tales. We hope that this attempt to remind people of these stories is a favor for our present and future generations, so that Lebanese history continues its path without any missing links. One might imagine that any such link belongs to a bygone era, but in reality progress never happens overnight; rather, it is a gradual process that intrinsically ties past, present and future.

We offer these stories to our family members, young and old, and we are confident that they will be of interest – God willing – to little ones and grown-ups alike.
